Those of us in the northern hemisphere are rounding the bend as the sun reaches the nadir of the analemma at the Tropic of Capricorn, starting a period of increased daylight hours for the next 6 months. Another milestone on our cosmic voyage around the sun together and a time to reflect on the past year, as winter begins in earnest and we celebrate the holidays.
I’m certain that many of you are dizzy from news headlines and personal events that happened to you, not to mention the hectic times around the holidays. I was tempted to write a year in review article to reflect on all those events of 2022, but instead will focus on the here and now and the path forward for us all.
Take a quiet moment to start at the beginning of this year and maybe scroll through your pictures for the faces and places that made this year special or eventful. Who and what did we lose along the way? Who came new into our lives? Did we see new places or see familiar places anew? Did we rekindle relationships that were forgotten or disrupted by the pandemic?
Can we put aside our differences, even for a moment or two, and see the people around us as common passengers on our life’s journey? Perhaps we can work toward breaking down the forces that keep us in separate tribes by turning down the volume or tuning out the voices and faces that drive us apart. I came across this simple, yet beautiful saying, written on the Palm’sche Apothecary in Schorndorf, Germany:
Seek Truth
Love Beauty
Practice Goodness
How can we make 2023 a better year for ourselves, our family and friends, and all others in our circle and beyond it? Here are my wishes for me and everyone else-Â May you be safe and protected. May you be healthy and strong. May you experience ease of body and mind. May you be at peace.
May your wishes for the New Year come true!
Seek Truth; love beauty; practice goodness. Six words that capture everything vital to a life well-lived. Thanks for posting.
